Take a peek inside our sunny studio
Franca is located in the vibrant neighborhood of Bushwick in Brooklyn, New York. We have been producing playful yet modern, useful ceramics since launching in 2016. We create all our pieces by hand from start to finish through a ceramic production process called slip casting. Here is a peek into a few of the steps in that process:
Pouring Slip
After cleaning and preparing the molds, we mix the liquid clay to the right consistency, known as slip. Then we pour the slip into the molds, each with its specific cast time, to vary the product's thickness across different designs.
Drying Greenware
As the cast pieces dry, the liquid clay is released from the plaster mold. Piecesa are very delicate at this stage, so we let them air-dry for a couple of days before cleaning them up and applying glaze.
Painting Patterns
Our hand-painted patterns require patience, skill, and attention to detail. The individual brushstrokes create subtle variations that make each piece unique. This personal hand-painted touch is what sets our products apart from mass-produced pieces.
